The first annual Legends of the South 2011 is loaded talent in its first inaguarl year. Teams from around the state, Texas and Louisianna will converge on the Jackson, MS area and showcase there skills in what will be the largest single high school event this state has seen. You wil; get a chance to watch some of the top high school boys and girls in the country at the hisorically famous Lee Williams Athletic and Assembly Center on Jackson States campus. Some of the top talent and teams include.
Callaway Chargers – Malik Newman 6’3” 2015 combo guard, projected to be one of the top players in his class, he can do it all. Taron Gilmore 6’7” 2012 athletic combo forward signed with Murray State. Treshawn Bolden 6’8” 2013 power forward with really good hands and quick moves around the basket. Top 100 player with developing wing skills.
Provine Rams – Roger Woods 6’5” 2012 wing, long athletic and can score in a variety of ways. Mid major potential. Deangelo West 6’0” 2015 point who will be a 4 star guard one day. Really good shooter and mature basketball approach. Courtney Shannon 5’10” 2013 point, shoots it really well, some say the best on ball defender in the state.
Madison Central Jags – Brice Rowe 6’3” 2012 point, long big strong point guard, attacks well and can shoot all over the floor, mid major. Chase Carroll 6’1” shooter with a high motor. Can play some point, great feel for the game. Joniah White 6’11” 2014 center, long shot blocker who can score around the rim. Developing jump shot and big time leader. Top 100 player and high major talent.
Canton Tigers – McDarion Abrom 6’10” 2012 big body center signed with Alcorn State, scores well around the rim, decent rebounder and shot blocker. Rakeem Esco 6’3” 2012 point guard, big body, attacks well off the dribble, mid major.
Amanda Elzy Panthers – Maurice Dunlap 6’1” 2014 point guard who shoots it really well, high motor, great with angles, mid major. Raheem Leighman 6’3” combo guard who scores well, strong solid shooter mid major. Janarious Middleton 6’8” 2013 Center tuff inside, great rebounder mid major.
Forest Bearcats – LaDerick Scott 6’8” 2013 dominate big man who can dominate the paint, developing jump shot with big time upside, top 100 player high major prospect.
Forest Hill Patriots – Chris Bilbo 6’2” 2012 point, great feel for the game, makes his team better, great passer and winner, developing outside game, mid major prospect. Quintarius Porter 6’4” 2012 wing who shoots it well from the perimeter, athletic and long, mid major prospect. William Brown 6’0” 2013 point, young but aggressive, with solid perimeter skills, mid major prospect.
Houston St Pius X Panthers – Tre Guidry 6’5” wing 2012 committed to San Diego State can score in a variety of ways, fun to watch. Terrell Jackson 6’0” combo guard who shoots it really well mid major prospect. Carl Culberson 6’0” 2012 point, great off the bounce, makes his team go.
Raymond Rangers – James Jordan 6’4” 2014 wing, very athletic, shoots it really well, mid major plus, Johnathan McGee 6’0” 2012 combo another great shooter, athletic, great feel for a guard. Johnathan Thomas 6’2” 2014 point guard, runs team well, long, solid shooter, also athletic, mid major prospect.
Newton Tigers – Dennis Miles 6’8” 2013 forward with big time potential, developing mid range game. Gets up and down the floor well, good rebounder, high major talent.
St Augustine LA Purple Knights –Jevan Felix 6’0” 2012 point guard committed to Texas, great shooter, high basketball IQ, will find the open guy, strong body and attacks with passion, fun to watch. Craig Victor 6’8” 2014 forward high major prospect can do it all, shoot, pass rebound, plays with swagger and high basketball IQ. Sydie London 6’3” 2012 wing, athletic and intelligent on the court, has a very good mid range game and scores well off the bounce, mid major prospect.
Crystal Springs Tigers – Jerekius Davis 6’5” 2015 wing, athletic, can shoot from deep and spot up, solid rebounder.
SV Marshall Tigers – Marquise Vance 6’5” 2013 wing with all the wing tools you need, really nice shooting touch, can attack the rim, nice size body, high major prospect. Tamarcio Wilson 6’1” 2012 point fast and athletic, solid shooter, great defender, mid major prospect.
Ridgeland Titans – Jamaul Hester 6’8” 2012 forward, big body, nice hands, great upside, soft hands finishes around the rim, mid major prospect. Justin Mcoy 6’7” 2013 wing forward, great mid range game, developing long range game, long with upside, mid major prospect.
Jackson Prep Patriots - Thomas Dunbar, 6’4 2012 Forward: Returning Conference player of the year. Team Captain and leader of the team. Willing to score in different ways and is very versatile. Leads team in rebounds. Josh William, 6’4 2013 Guard: strong, athletic player that plays the wing but is capable of posting, handling the ball and guarding big men or point guards. His versatility makes him difficult to defend. Ryan Buchanan, 6’4” 2013 Guard, tremendously versatile player with a great shooting touch. He is a returning All-Conference selection as a sophomore and is making the transition from playing center to small forward.
